The British Prime Minister is tonight ready to back a bid to have Northern Ireland declared a foot-and-mouth free region, provided there are no more cases.

There has only been a single case, in one sheep in South Armagh, and stringent restrictions have so far managed to stop any further spread of the outbreak.
