Haughey is conscious, but sedated
Charles Haughey has been able to speak with members of his family, although the former Taoiseach is still heavily sedated.
Management at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin released a statement to update waiting reporters on Mr Haughey's condition.
He is being monitored for a "life-threatening cardiac condition" which caused an irregular heartbeat and was sedated to allow ventilation.
He has now been taken off the ventilator.
Mr Haughey will remain in intensive care for further treatment.
