A man has been convicted of the manslaughter of three elderly sisters at a house on the island of Inisboffin, Co Galway two years ago.

The jury of six men and six women unanimously convicted 27-year-old Alan Murphy from Newcastle, Co Down at Galway Circuit Criminal Court today after six days of deliberation.

81-year-old Eileen Coyne and her sisters, 80-year-old Bridget McFadden and 72-year-old Margaret Concannon, all perished in a blaze at the house in July 1999.

Sentencing has been adjourned until the next sitting of the court on April 24.
