A government study on murders has confirmed that young drunken males are more likely to be involved in killings than any other social grouping.

The report, which was commissioned amid growing concern about the levels of street violence in Ireland, shows most murders involve young men, occur during the hours of darkneess and follow the consumption of alcohol.
