Witness describes Bloody Sunday shooting

A man who was shot while arguing with troops about the first fatality of Bloody Sunday says he believes the soldier who fired at him had wanted to kill him.

Michael Bridges also told the Saville inquiry he was presenting no threat when wounded in the car park of the Rossville flats.

Giving evidence in Derry's Guildhall, he said he was shot after venturing towards army paratroopers. At the time he was distressed and incensed after coming across the body of Jack Duddy, who had been gunned down moments earlier.

Mr Bridge said two boys ran out and dragged him back into the street and if they had not, he believed he would have been killed.
