Alleycats' judge moves to defuse controversy

The judge who provoked a storm of controversy by accusing women of "getting drunk, acting like alleycats and fighting like savages" has moved to clarify his remarks.

Judge Michael Connellan insisted he was speaking about the trend towards drunken violence, irrespective of whether those involved are men or women.
