The Army, will this morning, be called in to reinforce the surveillance of the border areas in an attempt to prevent the possible spread of foot and mouth disease into the Republic.

Round the clock patrols have been ordered to help Gardai enforce the Department of Agriculture’s ban on imports of livestock and carcasses from the six counties.
