The IFA has called for a national state of emergency to be declared until we establish the exact risk to Irish animals and meat products from the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Britain.

Mr Parlon said that as a precautionary measure all farmers meetings have been cancelled until further notice to prevent the spread of the disease.
