Tribunal told of cash bag given to Burke
The Flood Tribunal has been told that Ray Burke was presented with a bag of money that probably contained £60,000 in late 1986.
The allegation was made by former Fianna Fail councillor Jim Geraghty against Burke, who was chairman of Dublin County Council at the time.
Mr Geraghty, from Rush, Co Dublin, served on the Dublin Council from 1985 to 1991.
He alleged that, while he was in Mr Burke's office in Dublin County Council in 1986, a man came in and handed the former Minister for Foreign Affairs a sports bag.
Mr Geraghty left the room but returned later and saw that the open bag was full of £20 notes.
There was a reference to '60', which Mr Geraghty took to mean £60,000.
The councillor mentioned the incident to another Fianna Fail councillor and was soon summoned to Mr Burke's office.
He was then told, if he told anyone else, he would never run on a Fianna Fail ticket again.
