Labour calls for radiation action after another Euro Commission rap
The Labour Party is calling for the Government to incorporate two European directives into Irish law, which are aimed at protecting the public from the dangers of radiation.
The call comes after the European Commission handed Ireland a second warning over the Irish Government's failure to implement the legislation.
Ireland had promised Brussels that the measures would come into effect from May 2000.
Labour MEP Proinnsias de Rossa said last night that the delay was an embarrassing one, and fiercely undermined the Irish campaign against the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant.
