A Cork drug dealer has been jailed for eight years for possession of £500,000 worth of ecstasy with intent to supply.

30-year-old Michael Courtney, with an address at 15 Churchfield Court, Churchfield, Cork was described as a storeman for a major drugs gang from the city's northside.

Det Gda Sgt Michael Fitzpatrick from Anglesea St Garda Station told Cork Circuit Criminal Court that Mr Courtney had been caught red-handed in possession of 50,000 ecstasy tablets at a wooded area outside the town of Ovens, near Cork City, in 1998.

The haul was one of the biggest in the State at the time, with a value of £500,000.
