Major drugs seizure in rural Mayo

Drugs with a street value of almost IR£75,000 were discovered by Mayo gardai in a weekend raid on two rural houses a few miles form the seaside village of Louisburgh.

Drugs with a street value of almost IR£75,000 were discovered by Mayo gardai in a weekend raid on two rural houses a few miles form the seaside village of Louisburgh.

Gardai from Westport and Louisburgh raided a party on Saturday night about three miles from the coastal village of Louisburgh and subsequent inquiries led to a search of nearby houses where the drugs were found.

Gardai found almost 80 cannabis plants, at various degrees of maturity, growing with the aid of specially installed heating and ventilation systems. No arrests were made but according to gardai enquiries are continuing and a file will be sent to the DPP.
