Fine Gael confident of keeping Mayo deputies

Fine Gael has said it is confident of retaining its three seats in Mayo at the next election following the results of a recent opinion poll in the county.

The TG4/MRBI survey puts Fine Gael at 56%, up seven points since the last election, with Fianna Fail dropping eight down to 35%.

Local Fine Gael TD Michael Ring said the result shows that national polls are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

He said the only poll that counts is the next election.
