Ireland has new cardinal

Ireland has a new cardinal this afternoon. It has been announced by the Vatican that Archbishop of Dublin Desmond Connell has been appointed a cardinal.

74-year-old Dr Connell is a native of Dublin and was educated at Belvedere College, Hollycross College and UCD.
