Taximan held captive during Dublin hijacking

Another taxi has been hijacked in Dublin in broad daylight in the Killinarden area of Tallaght.

Gardai say the ordeal for the driver started when he picked up two men in the vicinity of the Square shopping centre in Tallaght yesterday afternoon.

The passengers turned on the driver - who was operating a peoplecarrier - when he reached Killinarden.

The taximan was forced into the back of his vehicle and tied up, with the culprits holding the man for some time before abandoning the car in the Cherry Orchard Industrial Estate.

The hijackers escaped with the takings and a mobile phone in an incident which it is believed will once again raise questions about the safety of those who operate Dublin's public and private transport systems.
