Dublin-Knock air service hit by strike

The new daily air service between Dublin and Knock, due to begin on Thursday, has been suspended because of industrial action.

The Minister for Public Enterprise Mary O’Rourke officially launched the service at Knock Airport last week. It is understood that workers at Knock are refusing to co-operate with the new air link unless they receive a 33% pay rise.

Staff at the airport have already refused a 10% increase and an opportunity to go the Labour Relations Commission. 15 additional staff were taken on for the new service and these have now been placed on protective notice.

The chairman of the airport Cathal Duffy says there was no other option but to suspend the introduction of the service.
