Elderly couple attacked in Dublin

A woman is being questioned in connection with a vicious assault on an elderly couple in Dublin.

The attack happened in a house in the East Wall area of the city shortly after midnight.

The victims, aged 76 and 79, are being treated at the Mater Hospital. The man and woman were struck several times.

The alarm was raised shortly afterwards and the victims were taken to the Mater, where their injuries are described as not life-threatening.

The woman is being questioned by detectives at Store St Garda Station. She is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
