The Galway based Saville-ADC computer software company is to lay off 33 of its 200 workers.

The redundancies are being blamed on a downturn in the IT industry in the US.

A spokesman said the decision to reduce the workforce was "a painful but necessary one" to ensure the future of the company.

He said Saville-ADC would be setting up a special unit to help the employees find alternative jobs in the IT sector in the Galway sector.
