The Irish Refugee Council has condemned calls by the Immigration Control Platform to have the status of asylum seekers determined before they enter the country. IRC spokesman Peter O'Mahony described Aine Ni Chonaill's proposals as "simply unworkable". Earlier today, the ICP launched a postcard campaign calling on Justice Minister John O'Donoghue to withdraw Ireland from the 1951 Geneva Convention on Refugees.
