Sligo Mayor hits out over train heating fiasco
The Mayor of Sligo has hit out at Iarnrod Eireann after a breakdown on heating on Sligo-Dublin trains last week led to passengers being told to wrap up and have a hot meal before travelling. The fault in the line's 30-year-old carriages continued without repair for a week. Alderman Sean McManus said he was unconvinced by Iarnrod Eireann's claim that it has begun a carriage replacement programme.
"I have heard these excuses year after year and have heard promises from successive ministers but still the situation seems no better," he said. "Something must be done urgently on the issue of rolling stock".
