The Vintners Federation has launched a new initiative to cut the amount of smoke in Irish pubs.

The "Pubair" plan will encourage publicans to improve air standards in their bars and to use external signs to announce the improvements to their customers.

Chief Executive of the Vintners' Federation, Tadhg O'Sullivan, said the changing clientele of Irish pubs made it necessary for his members to introduce such changes.
