Call for public to point out VAT cut evaders
Shoppers are being encouraged to make complaints to the Director of Consumer Affairs, if they find that recent VAT reductions are not being passed on. The rate of VAT fell from 21% to 20% on Monday last, however some retailers have not reduced prices. Michael Kilcoyne of the Consumers Association of Ireland says some retailers are continuing to rip-off consumers. He says there appears to be no evidence of the reduction being passed on to the consumer. He adds that the Association has received numerous complaints from members of the public who state quite clearly that the prices that are being charged today were being charged a week ago.
