The Irish Cancer Society has today announced a 40% increase in its New Year cancer research grants to Irish scientists.

The Irish Cancer Society has today announced a 40% increase in its New Year cancer research grants to Irish scientists. The money will be divided among 19 research projects that may revolutionise early detection of cancer over the coming years. Meanwhile, in the short term, Chief Executive of the Irish Cancer Society, Barry Dempsey, is urging people to give up smoking for the New Year. He's encouraging people to phone their helpline on 1850 201 203, where there will professional assistance for those hoping to kick the habit.
