Batman v Superman was “very satanistic”, while animated children’s film Trolls featured “genocidal cannibalism with [a] sub-context of substance addiction”.

Those were just two of the 14 complaints from the public lodged with the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) about nine films last year.

The film that attracted the highest number of complaints was Jason Bourne — the fifth instalment in an action-thriller series starring Matt Damon, which was certified 12A.
