Ten West Cork groups to benefit from ‘Kitchen Cupboard’ sale
Grab your chance to buy everything from egg-toppers to electric blenders at an unusual Christmas Kitchen Cupboard Sale in aid of a variety of West Cork charities.
“One person’s trash is another person’s treasure or Christmas present,” said Ola Fudali, assistant manager at the Urru Culinary Store in Bandon which is currently organising a seasonal Pre-Loved Kitchen Cupboard Sale in aid of 10 local charities and community groups.
Donated kitchen gadgets are already pouring in ahead of sale day, on December 8, between 4pm and 8pm.
Store owner Ruth Healy says Urru has already received a donation of an egg topper as well as one of the by-now very rare traditional brown Mason Cash Mixing Bowls.
Also awaiting their new sale day owners are a variety of oven-to-table dishes, cafetieres, an electric blender and a signed Best-selling cookery book. There are cookie cutters, weighing scales, coffee grinders and bakeware of different kinds.
Donors should bring anything from their kitchen that they don’t use themselves.
“This is a great chance to head into the festive season with a less cluttered kitchen while doing something generous for the local community.
“We try to do something novel for charity every year and we always merge the proceeds with donations we receive from customers to selected charities,” explains Ruth, who said the store will accept ‘pre-loved’ kitchen gadgets right up until December 5.
However, she emphasised, all donations should be in perfect condition and working order.
“The types of items we’d love — and which must be in perfect working order — are kitchen gadgets, bowls, baking accessories, small electrical appliances such as whisks and blenders.
“We vet items when they come in to ensure quality and condition, and have a list of donors and their items.”
Any items that remain unsold after the sale will be distributed appropriately to families in the Bandon area in time for Christmas.
The funds will be presented to the groups during a “Mulled Hot Drinks Tasting” at 4pm on Saturday December 10 in Urru Culinary Store.
The ten local groups that are set to benefit from the Kitchen Cupboard sale are Bandon Arts Festival, Bandon Hypobaric Chamber, Bandon Youth Reach, Bandon Family Support and Wellbeing, Bandon Special Olympics, Bandon Rosmini Centre, Bandon Men’s’ Shed, Bandon Tidy Towns and Bandon Christmas Lights, Down Syndrome Cork’s Field of Dreams.
