UCC to host special celebration to mark centenary of Honan Chapel

Next Saturday, UCC and the Board of Governors of the Honan Trust will host The Honan Chapel Centenary Symposium marking the milestone.

Named for the Cork merchant family who gave money for it to be built, the Honan Chapel was consecrated in November 1916.

The Chapel was originally modelled on Cormac’s Chapel at Cashel, designed by J.F. McMullen and built by John Sisk and Sons.

The centenary event will celebrate the rich history of the Chapel and its unique collection of artworks, regarded by many as the jewel in the crown of the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement.

The liturgical artworks in the Honan Chapel include some of the best examples of the Irish Revival.
