‘Others can’t get garda pay deal’

The recent garda pay deal can’t be extended to the rest of the public service, the finance minister warned.

“I think everybody in Ireland is happy that the guards are at work this morning and that there isn’t a strike of the guards because that was a very disturbing prospect,” Michael Noonan said.

“But it’s also true to say that the proposals of the Labour Court were more generous than the Government anticipated.
