A Limerick man was yesterday found guilty of an attempted robbery in which an 80-year-old retired taximan, recovering from heart by-pass surgery, was slashed across the forehead.

Ian Murrihy, aged 26, of O’Callaghan Avenue, Kileely, had pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to attempted robbery of Brendan Beacom on May 14, 2014.

After an hour and 40 minutes of deliberations, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict. Judge John Hannan adjourned sentence to January and remanded Murrihy, who has 30 previous convictions, in custody.
