Cathriona White’s family ‘not involved in legal action’
Ms White, 30, was the ex-girlfriend of Hollywood star, Jim Carey. Her body was found in her Los Angeles home just over a year ago.
The actor is currently embroiled in a court battle with Ms White’s estranged husband, Mark Burton, who alleges that the film star was complicit in her death.
Mr Burton, a Hollywood cameraman, was listed as her next of kin on official documents but the couple had separated and were planning to divorce later this year.
Ms White’s family stated yesterday that no member was involved in “any legal action with any party” about her death.
They wanted “to clarify the public record” in relation to recent reporting about their “beloved” Cathriona.
The statement reads: “Contrary to recent media reports, no member of the White family is involved in any legal action with any party in relation to the untimely passing of Cathriona.”
It continues: “The White family remember their beautiful Cathriona as a wonderful, caring and compassionate person.
“The continuous media intrusion and speculation only continues to cause hurt and upset to the family.”
They asked that Cathriona be allowed rest in peace with the dignity that she deserved.
“The family will not be making any further statement and request the media to respect their privacy.”
The Irish beauty therapist was buried alongside her father, Pat, at Cappawhite Cemetery in Co Tipperary. Her father died in 2012 after a 20-year battle with brain cancer.
Mr Carey, 54, helped Ms White’s family carry her coffin through the town to the graveyard and hugged family members as it was lowered into the ground.
It is understood that the actor had been in touch with the family, who wanted him to attend the funeral.
Ms White was found dead in her Los Angeles home after overdosing on prescription drugs.
A coroner recorded her death as suicide.
