Man, 82, admits abusing boy up to 48 years ago

An 82-year-old man from Glanmire, Co Cork, confessed yesterday to the indecent assault of a boy — some of the assaults occurring as many as 48 years ago.

Patrick Bassett, with an address at The Farmhouse, Sarsfield Court, in Glanmire, Co Cork, signed a plea of guilty to 12 counts of indecent assault yesterday at Cork District Court.

Joseph Cuddigan, defence solicitor, told Judge Con O’Leary yesterday that the accused was prepared to sign pleas of guilty to all charges obviating the necessity for the preparation of a book of evidence.
