Phonelines and kiosks in branches, as well as the mobile app and internet banking facilities were affected.

The issues were flagged by customers at about 10am yesterday when branches began opening across the country.

The problems continued until 5.45pm, after which time all services were operating as normal.

“All services are now operating as normal. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to customers today while we experienced some technical issues. We want to assure customers that they will not be out of pocket as a result of this,” a spokesperson for the bank said.

Despite comments on social media, ATMs were working in all circumstances. AIB customers were still able to withdraw cash from ATMs and make purchases and online with their AIB cards.

They were also still able to go into a branch and have their banking needs dealt with by an employee. Banking was possible on the AIB website but it was not available to people using the app on mobile and tablet devices.

The bank was also hit with technical difficulties in July, relating once again to its online banking services.
