Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a man sustained serious head injuries in a road traffic collision in Limerick yesterday.

A Limerick 2007-registered, silver-coloured Seat Cordoba was in a collision with a delivery truck at 1.15pm, on the Kilmallock to Newcastle West road.

According to a source, the crash happened close to a bend on the road at Graig Beg, Castletown Conyers, Kilmallock, between Lee’s Cross and Rourke’s Cross on the Bruff line.

The two vehicles collided head-on, said gardaí said.

The driver of the car, who is aged in his mid to late forties, was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí said the man was is “critical condition”.

Gardaí said the man suffered “serious head injuries” from the collision.

There were no other occupants of the car.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The road at Kilmallock remained closed for over 10 hours to allow a Garda technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí said a forensic collision investigator visited the crash site and carried out a detailed examination.

Gardaí at Newcastle West are investigating the incident and have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 069 20650.
