Thefts on the rise in Co Cork

Burglaries in the Cork North Garda division rose by 7% over the past year at a time when such crimes fell nationally by over 18%.

New figures published by the Central Statistics Office show the Cork North area was one of only three of 28 Garda divisions nationwide where the incidence of burglaries rose in the year to March 2016. The others were Cavan/Monaghan and Dublin East.

The Cork North Garda division which covers towns including Mallow, Fermoy, Cobh, Youghal, and Midleton recorded 414 burglaries over the period — an annual increase of 27.
