BBC on the look out for a Cork take on music magic

The BBC is scouring Cork for singers, dancers, all around performers, and even some old-fashioned sages who can offer a bit of traditional advice.

BBC on the look out for a Cork take on music magic

If you’re an all singing, all-dancing Take That fan, then the BBC is definitely looking to speak to you.

Gary Barlow has joined up with the broadcaster for a new Saturday night show presented by Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc.

Called Let It Shine, the show will put together a group who will join the cast of new stage show The Band, which features the music of Take That.

Barlow will be one of the judges on the show and said he is looking for a group with chemistry.

“Back in 1989, we were just a group of normal guys from Manchester who came together to become Take That. The secret to our success was that each of us brought something different to the group and that the five of us had real chemistry.

“Now with Let It Shine we’re looking for people from all walks of life to form another unique group who can re-create that magic. If you think you’ve got what it takes, we want to see it,” he said.

Scouts for the show will be in the Cork area next week and are looking for males from 16 years and older who think they might have what it takes to join the group.

Those interested can visit www.bbc.co.uk/takepart and fill out the application form.

They can also meet the BBC scouts at the Firkin Crane Dance Studio at 1pm on June 28 with a 90-second song prepared either acapella or with a backing track.

If that wasn’t enough, the BBC is also looking for local characters with significant life experience who could provide advice and insight to others for a new series that looks at bringing traditional wisdom into the lives of everyday individuals.

Producers are currently casting in Ireland and will be heading to Cork in the next few weeks.

They are looking for groups and individuals who could help someone going through a pivotal moment in their lives whether it’s becoming a parent, getting married or changing careers.

Those interested in taking part can contact the casting team at wisewords@ bbc.co.uk for more information.
