John McGuinness nominated as chairman of Finance Committee

John McGuinness has been nominated as chairman of the Finance Committee after being passed over for a position on Fianna Fáil’s front bench. The Kilkenny TD who was not selected as a party spokesman by leader Micheál Martin is now set to chair one of the most high-profile Oireachtas Committees.

Mr McGuinness is among the six Fianna Fáil TDs nominated to chair committees with Sean Fleming selected to head the Public Accounts Committee which is the most powerful committee as it has powers to seek evidence from departments and investigate financial transactions.

While Fine Gael has yet to announce its six selections to committee chair roles, Sinn Féin also announced its three committee chair nominations yesterday.
