Former justice minister Alan Shatter has urged Taoiseach Enda Kenny to retract Dáil comments criticising him over the Garda corruption controversy and scrap the earlier Guerin report after its findings were contradicted by the O’Higgins inquiry.

The former Fine Gael TD, who was forced to resign as minister in 2014 after Mr Kenny informed him he no longer had his confidence due to a series of justice scandals, made the call in a lengthy statement yesterday.

Mr Shatter said the O’Higgins report has “vindicated” his position and cleared him of any wrongdoing about acting on concerns in the force.
