Dáil to sit for second time in 47 days

Amid an ongoing lack of clarity on whether any government can be formed, the Dáil will today sit for just the second time since the general election was called 47 days ago.

The 158 TDs elected in the February 26 vote will return for just eight hours today to discuss farming matters and Ireland’s growing homelessness and housing crises, including the recent Tyrrelstown eviction controversy.

However, while caretaker Taoiseach Enda Kenny will also provide an update to parliament on discussions about setting up a new government, it is expected there will be few if any concrete steps towards forming a stable coalition or whether a second election is now on the cards.
