Fuel savings: Motorists €500 better off than 2 years ago

The recent rise in oil prices has steadied prices at the pumps, but motorists are still more than €500 a year better off than they were two years ago.

The average price for a litre of petrol is now 121.1c, a slight drop of 0.9c on February and nothing like the price falls of previous months. Diesel prices rose by 0.9c to an average of 106.3c, according to the latest nationwide survey by AA Ireland.

“The price of oil has come up off the floor in the last few weeks but the recovery is nothing to be excited about and the problems of oversupply are still there,” said director of consumer affairs Conor Faughnan.
