Gardaí in 2014 launched a fresh investigation into the 2010 murder of the father of one following a full review of the case.

At Dublin Coroner’s Court, Insp Paul Scott confirmed an arrest had been made in relation to the case and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Insp Scott applied for a six-month adjournment of the inquest to allow time for a decision to be made.

Mr Deans was shot in the head and upper chest as he made his way to his partner’s home in Coolock in January 2010. He was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead shortly after.

No family were present in court but they are being kept aware of developments, Insp Scott told the coroner, Dr Brian Farrell.

“This is a re-investigation of a homicide and one person has been arrested. A file is bring prepared for the DPP,” said Insp Scott.

Dr Farrell agreed to adjourn the inquest until August 16. “Hopefully we will be in a position to set a date then, depending on the DPP’s decision,” said Insp Scott.
