Further to Paddy O’Brien’s letter, (Irish Examiner, February 20) maybe he should consider how lucky we were that Fianna Fáil were in government at the time of the crash.

After all, where would we be now if the Fine Gael manifesto of 2007 had been implemented? That is income tax reduced to 18% and stamp duty dropped further? They also sought major increases in public spending. I think we would have been in a lot worse position than we were.
