A new energy policy for the EU should inject life into the stalling project to build a liquified natural gas terminal in the Shannon estuary, according to Fine Gael MEP Seán Kelly.

The European Commission unveiled a package of measures designed to give countries a more dependable and secure supply of energy, and put a lot of focus on liquefied natural gas.

Europe currently depends on natural gas for about a quarter of its energy, half of which is imported from Russia and Norway, as well as Algeria.
