The killing of a well-known criminal yesterday was an act of retaliation for last Friday’s murder of David Byrne, gardaí said.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald is to hold an emergency meeting with Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan today on foot of the murders.
