One of the finest hurlers Cork has ever seen, Seán Óg weds long-time love Siobhán Quirke today while former Kerry rival Paul got hitched to Today FM DJ Louise Duffy yesterday.
Seán Óg, who has been seeing Siobhán for the last 16 years, popped the question on a romantic trip to New York last year.
The pair, who friends say are “made for each other”, are both GAA mad. Seán Óg made his Cork debut in 1996 while Siobhán, from Innishannon, is the sister of former Cork football goalkeeper Alan Quirke.
Seán Óg and Siobhán will be married in a ceremony in Innishannon today, with a reception afterwards at the Rochestown Park Hotel.
Separately, Paul Galvin and Louise Duffy, who also, coincidentally, got engaged last year during a romantic trip to New York, said “I do” yesterday in front of more than 200 guests in Mayo.
They tied the knot at St Tiernan’s Church in Crossmolina, with Louise wearing a stunning white lace gown with embroidered sleeves and long veil.
While fashion fiend Paul was never going to outdo his blushing bride in the clothes department, the star looked dashing in a dark grey three-piece suit and a spotted maroon tie.
The couple, along with guests such as Kieran Donaghy and Colm Cooper, then took to the picturesque Belleek Castle in Ballina to party the night away.
Ahead of the wedding, Louise spoke of the excitement surrounding the nuptials.
“The place we’re getting married in is just beautiful,” she said. “It will be a family event really and there’ll be 200 at it.”
Louise has been with Kerry man Paul for the last three years, and also discussed her wedding dress dilemmas.
“I thought maybe I’ll just get a plain white dress from anywhere and jazz it up, but at the same time I don’t want to be looking at these pictures in 20 years’ time and thinking, ‘Oh wasn’t I a fool trying to be all snazzy?’” she said.
“It’s better to put your own stamp on it and have something that will remain beautiful in years to come.”
