Arrests for attack on mother-to-be in Cork city centre

A Latvian woman in her 20s was punched in the eye by a youth on November 29 as she made her way down Princes St shortly after 7.30pm.

She incurred a black eye in the unprovoked attack, which occurred in the sixth month of her pregnancy.

The youth was with two other males when the assault occurred.

Last Thursday, a male was detained for questioning by gardaĂ in relation to the incident. He was later released without charge.

Another male was arrested on Friday morning. He was also released without charge from the Bridewell Garda Station.

The woman, did not give her name, said she was “minding her own business” when the youth approached with two other males. She does not believe he intended to rob her but instead suspects he was on drugs.

However, she plans to stay in Ireland despite the attack.

“I am raising my son here,” the woman said. “I like it. I will not let this make me think about leaving. But I was very shocked by what happened.”
