Man held after ‘Mecca’ row at Cork Airport

A man was arrested at Cork Airport last night after he became distressed due to the lack of flights to Mecca.

The man, believed to be a Libyan student, arrived at the airport shortly after 7pm.

He asked staff about booking a flight to the Saudi Arabian city of Mecca and became agitated when told no such flight existed.

Gardaí arrested him under the Mental Health Act and took him to Togher Garda station.

The airport remained fully operational throughout the incident.
