Minister to repeal rule about religion in primary education

The Education Minister is to remove an “archaic” rule which states religion is the most important aspect of education in primary schools.

Jan O’Sullivan has confirmed that the rule, which has been in place for 50 years, will go in January.

It comes as the Department of Education comes under pressure to address patronage of schools.
