Piercing, tattoo parlours face strict guidelines

Strict guidelines for body piercing and tattoo parlours will be unveiled next week in a bid to prevent infection among clients and maintain standards amid a huge growth in the industry.

Compulsory warnings for clients about possible infections after certain procedures will be given out by parlours in future, under the draft plans.

Health Minister Leo Varadkar is expected to say that tattooing and body piercing have become increasingly popular as a “fashion statement” and that the number of parlours has multiplied as a result.
