Launching the campaign to recruit 600 people in 2016, Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said “we need to see” a garda force which is “representative” of the country’s diverse communities.

Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan said there were “not enough” people from the different nationalities and backgrounds in Ireland in the service and urged them to apply.
