Santa Claus was at the centre of a dramatic lifeboat rescue yesterday but, thanks to their training and swift response, RNLI volunteers helped save Christmas.

The drama unfolded during a very special festive book reading event for local schoolchildren hosted by the Crosshaven RNLI crew at their base in Co Cork.

A spokesperson for the charity moved last night to reassure children, counting down the sleeps to the big day, the rescue is just a story and Santa has never needed to be rescued by the RNLI.
