RNLI lifeboat volunteers save Santa in dramatic rescue
The drama unfolded during a very special festive book reading event for local schoolchildren hosted by the Crosshaven RNLI crew at their base in Co Cork.
A spokesperson for the charity moved last night to reassure children, counting down the sleeps to the big day, the rescue is just a story and Santa has never needed to be rescued by the RNLI.
“But, even in the unlikely event that something happens, the RNLI will be on standby, even on Christmas Eve, to make sure he can continue on his journey,” she said.
The story of Santa’s rescue is outlined in a new book, The Big Christmas Rescue, which has been launched to help fundraise for the RNLI.
Children from Crosshaven Boys NS, Scoil Bhríde, and Templebreedy NS yesterday visited Crosshaven lifeboat station where volunteer crew member, Kieran Coniry, read the story.
The story is set on a wet and windy Christmas Eve night when Santa crashes his sleigh into the sea. Fast-acting volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members respond to the scene and pluck Santa to safety.
The children’s book can be personalised to put young readers at the centre of a story, with a facility to allow the buyer select the name, gender and skin tone of the child in the story, making it a truly unique gift .
The school children later got a tour of the lifeboat station, viewing its Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat, and learned about the lifesaving service the RNLI provides.
“I really enjoyed reading the story to the children,” said Mr Coniry. “They all seemed to enjoy the book and it was great to tell the children about the lifesaving service we provide at the RNLI.”
He encouraged people to consider buying the book, with all profits from sales going to help the RNLI continue saving lives at sea.
