An umpire was struck a number of times with a hurley “in the white heat of battle”, at a Division 2 match in Co Kerry, a court was told yesterday .

Anthony O’Grady, aged 38, of Ardoughter, Ballyduff, Co Kerry, has pleaded guilty at Tralee District Court to assaulting Kieran O’Connor, 44, causing him harm at Ballyduff on November 6, 2014.

O’Grady, who is currently working in the UK, returned for the court case yesterday.
